The Pacific coast of Chocó is a paradise facing the jungle, with solitary waves waiting to be discovered.

El Amargal Nature Reserve is a prime surfing spot in Nuquí, located south of the Gulf of Tribugá, very close to the famous Pico de Loro wave. You'll also find beach breaks, both lefts and rights, right in front of the lodge, and a left-hand point break at the southern end of our Amargal beach. On the adjacent beach, you'll find the left and right beach breaks and the right-hand point break of Juan Tornillo. And in just 20 minutes by boat, you can surf Terco (left) and Terquito (left or right) to the north, or Pico de Loro (mostly left) and Pela Pela (left) to the south, at Cabo Corrientes.

You can take surf lessons, rent a board or bring your own board, to surf at the beach break or the point break of Playa Amargal.

Or if you're feeling adventurous, swim to the beach break and the Juan Tornillo point.

Or take a boat for sessions in Terco or Terquito.

If you have an ADVANCED level:

You can rent a board or bring your own board to surf at the free access spots of Playa El Amargal and Juan Tornillo.

Or take a boat for sessions in Terco or Terquito.

Or take a boat to venture to Pico de Loro and Pela Pela, always accompanied by a local surfer who knows the spot, for your safety.

Remember that the waves are usually bigger and stronger between April and December, with southwest winds.

If you are an intermediate or advanced surfer, remember to always CHECK THE WEATHER AND SEA CONDITIONS that you will likely find during your stay, to be more certain that they will be suitable for your surfing level.
